Day 1

Well I did my first day of practice. I drew down on my target (a stuffed "penguin computing" penguin on a shelf) 50 times. Turns out that I'm more out of practice than I thought. I had to start slow and go by the numbers and everytime I tried to pick it up I went too fast.

I also found some issues with my normal carry cloths. Nothing that would have been a problem if I had to draw once. My t-shirt under the holster started bunching up and coming untucked as I kept drawing. I also realized that my normal 1 1/4" wide belt isn't very good as a gun belt. I have a good 1 1/2" gun belt and will have to look at getting a good "dress" gun belt.

50 down, 9950 left to go

  1. I went hunting three days this year, and each time I had a normal 1 1/4" belt holding up my sidearm. It was ok at first, but as the day went on I could feel it drooping.

  2. You might think about a Spec Ops Brand Better BDU belt. Just a thought.

  3. I bought a good gun belt that's 1 1/2" wide and I see how much of a difference it makes. I've been planning on ordering a good 1 1/4" belt but I haven't gotten around to it. My other belt is from www.thebeltman.net and I think I'll order the new one from there as well. I don't wear BDU's so I would look kind of silly in khakis, a polo and a BDU belt. I just need to stop being lazy/cheap and order it.

  4. I've been looking at the "Liger" belts that maxpedition makes. Unfortunately, I've never seen one in person, so I'm kind of hesitant to buy one. And the name kind of puts me off, but since you now train at the Home of the Ligers, that shouldn't be a problem for you.
